the lunch box is transforming public school food from processed

thelunchbox.org provides free practical, professional tools + recipes for U.S. schools to create healthier lunches. they've already transformed the school lunch experience for tens of thousands of nutritionally challenged children across America by helping their schools switch from processed foods to fresh, natural ingredients + scratch-made meals. now they can help 200 more schools since they partnered with whole foods, to raise $1.4 million so far. so please nominate your school at great american salad bar project before 11/12/10 :)

"renegade lunch lady" Chef Ann Cooper, has a vision to ensure that all children have access to healthy food at school to grow their bodies, minds + future. so she started a school lunch revolution last year, when she created a nonprofit to change the u.s. school food system to an ecologically sound model that empowers schools, families, farms + food producers to operate sustainably. it enables schools to serve nutritious whole food. it educates through training programs, direct services, + thelunchbox.org to provide tools for all schools, parents, advocates, students, administrators, teachers + food service staff to progress from serving highly processed, unhealthy food to serving fresh, healthy, scratch-cooked food.

over 66% of public schools serve lunches made of highly processed foods that exceed recommended limits for fat, sugar + sodium content. over 33% of u.s. kids are overweight, yet undernourished + predicted will develop preventable diabetes.
